Fakes on X? No Problem – When Users and Platform Work Together
Last night, I was once again deep in an exciting conversation with Grok. Everything was going great – until a brazen fake account suddenly barged in. The guy was handing out hearts, quoting parts of our chat, and pretending to be the real Grok.
Honestly? I was just plain annoyed. Stuff like that doesn't just irritate you – it undermines trust in the platform.
Here's a look at the specimen (screenshots of the fake and his “interaction”):
At that point, I said to myself: Enough is enough. Time to take action!
I immediately posted this publicly on my X profile – clear, direct, and loud enough to get noticed:
And what can I say?
Less than 10 minutes later, the fake account was history. Suspended. Gone.
For me, that's proof: X is doing its job. And doing it damn well – even when you just tag a bunch of accounts with a frustrated question instead of a polite request.
Sure, there are still some areas for improvement – the blue checkmark for verified accounts could be more robust, and the DSA is demanding more transparency. But let's be real: Do we really always need “independent researchers” writing reports for months?
No. Often, it's enough for attentive users like us to keep our eyes open, speak up loudly (even if it's a bit sarcastic), and tag the right accounts. Then X reacts lightning-fast – and the system works.
Thanks to the X team for turning that fake into just a story so quickly.
This gives hope: When the platform and the community work together, fakes don't stand a chance.
What do you think? Have you ever had similar experiences with quick suspensions? Feel free to share in the comments!
