Fake accounts pretending to be a "private" or "inspired" version of Elon Musk remain active on X in 2026.

Typical pattern:

  • Profile name: "Elon X" or similar variations
  • Bio: "Elon Musk main private account. Just inspired." or close variations
  • Banner: SpaceX or Tesla imagery
  • Location: Often Texas or California
  • Behavior: Likes posts, quotes or replies with generic phrases ("I enjoy what you share here on X but we're not friends yet…"), attempts to move conversation to DMs or external apps

These accounts are reported repeatedly as impersonation and spam. Some are suspended quickly, others remain active for days or longer. Public Grok instances sometimes give conflicting information (e.g., claiming an active account is suspended due to caching issues).

X has tools to fight bots and fakes (periodic purges, paid verification), but impersonation accounts targeting individual users continue to appear in waves.

Users are advised:

  • Do not engage
  • Do not click links or move to DMs/private apps
  • Report as "impersonation" or "spam"
