X Protects Fakes but Punishes Real Users: What’s Going Wrong on X?

Pseudo-Elons Are Running Wild

The fake Elon Musk accounts on X are getting bolder. They post content with phrases like “Giveaway,” “earn money,” “invest now,” or “earn daily,” tricking users with seemingly authentic interactions. A simple solution would be a keyword list to flag these accounts automatically. But X does—nothing. Why? It feels like the platform is too busy with new features and AI development to care about user safety.

My Red Flag: Punished for a Harmless Login

Last week, I tried logging into X using my friends’ private WLAN—and boom, I got a red flag! The reason? My login was deemed “suspicious.” If I hadn’t raised hell, I’d probably still be stuck with that flag today. Meanwhile, the Pseudo-Elons keep posting without a hitch. What kind of world is this, where real users get punished, but scammers get a free pass?

Datenschutz as a Shield for Fakes?

X seems worried about privacy laws—at least enough to flag innocent logins like mine. But ironically, this caution helps the fake accounts. Instead of catching obvious scam patterns like “earn money” or “invest now” and banning them, moderation stays weak. The platform might fear legal issues or false bans, but the result is that Pseudo-Elons keep running rampant.

What Can We Do?

  • Report Fake Accounts: Spot phrases like “Giveaway” or “earn daily”? Report the account immediately.

  • Be Cautious with WLANs: Use secure networks to avoid red flags (but why should we have to be so careful?).

  • Demand Better Moderation: X and xAI need to use simple solutions like keyword lists to stop scammers instead of harassing real users.

It’s time for X to wake up and prioritize safety. Until then: Keep your eyes open and report the fakes!
