Another Fake Elon: Why X Needs to Crack Down on Scammers Now
On March 20, 2025, I was having a terrible day. After exhausting doctor’s appointments, I just wanted to relax on X, scroll through funny pictures, and check messages. Instead, another fake Elon Musk account hit me like a punch in the gut and nearly brought me to tears.
It started as usual: A “middleman” on X hyped up the chance to chat with Elon Musk himself. I was skeptical but curious – I’m a huge fan of SpaceX, the Falcon 9, and the dream of colonizing Mars. But it didn’t take long to realize: This wasn’t Elon. It was a shameless scammer.
The scam continued on Telegram. The fake Elon asked how long I’d been a “fan” – a term I find ridiculous. I explained that I admire SpaceX’s vision. But instead of engaging, he fired off personal questions: Was I married? How old was I? What was my job? The usual nonsense.
Then he turned aggressive. He pushed me to invest in so-called “safe” opportunities, writing:
“This is how it works: We pool funds from investors worldwide
and invest daily in profitable multimillion-pound ventures like trading, stocks, NFTs, etc., and share the profits with investors. [...] This system is 100% reliable, and you’ll get your money back guaranteed within
45 minutes.”
He sent video clips rapid-fire, claiming they proved his success. But when I asked for a basic website? Crickets. There’s no website because the “deal” doesn’t exist. Even when I mentioned that I’d already filed complaints with the German police and U.S. authorities, he didn’t flinch. He didn’t even ask for the case number – all he cared about was my money.
That day, I was already emotionally drained. His pushy, cold demeanor finally made me cry. Only after saying “no” three times did he back off, grudgingly. I blocked him – it was just too much.
These fake Elons don’t just hurt fans like me; they tarnish Elon Musk’s reputation.
I have proof: Saved chat logs, phone numbers, profile pictures that switch from “Elon” to random guys. That’s not normal! And here’s what really infuriates me:
Why does X let these scammers run wild?
I see these accounts every day, and nothing changes. I could hand X piles of evidence – chat logs, numbers, patterns of these scams. Why isn’t this taken seriously? It’s obvious that scammers target fans like me, and X seems to just look the other way.
This has to stop – now.
My takeaway: These wannabe Elons are manipulative and ruthless. I won’t let them break me, but I’m fed up with X’s inaction.
My message to scammers: Stop exploiting us.
And to X: Wake up and protect your users!
